MetaCarta, the leading provider of geographic-information-retrieval & search software, is seeking and skilled and experienced Web Application Development Tech Lead to join our Content Services team in Cambridge, MA.This position will lead the technical design, development and management of several content-centric Web 2.0 applications and data services built upon our core products.

Key Responsibilities Include:
* Lead the development of various web applications that leverage our core geographic-information-retrieval & search software platform, including application design, programming, deployment, and operational monitoring and support, with a strong focus on Web 2.0 techniques.
* Provide strong technical leadership to a small, fast-paced team of passionate developers, while also being an individual contributor to projects.
* Creatively solve diverse and challenging technical problems as they arise.
* Plan, develop and deploy a variety of large-scale web-based geo-search solutions, including the user interfaces and backend content acquisition/index processing systems.
* Communicate technical requirements and issues to business, operations, and engineering staff.
* Work with the Content Services team to define technical requirements for web-based service offerings and implement solutions to fulfill those requirements.
* Collaborate with other team members to improve technology standards within the group
Qualifications:
* Strong Computer Science or Engineering background.
* 5+ years experience as a senior-level software developer.
* Solid programming skills in a variety of languages and environments (Python a big plus).
* JavaScript, DHTML, and general Web application programming skills a must.
* Database design, implementation, programming, administration (Postgres, MySQL, Oracle).
* Proficient working on a Linux platform.
* Effective communication of technical information, both written and oral.
* Able to manage multiple time-sensitive initiatives and competing priorities.
* Experienced and comfortable working within a cross-functional team.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in a highly organized manner.
* Strong analytical capabilities.
* Resourceful and able to come up with solutions where they may not be immediately obvious.
* Knowledge of C++ or C a plus.
* Experience with mapping/GIS solutions a big plus, but not necessary.
