Editor
White Digital Media is a fast-growing, ambitious publisher of online publications for business leaders, C-level executives and entrepreneurs. Through execdigital.com, Exec reaches hundreds of thousands of senior decision makers, entrepreneurs, and business professionals every month.
The role

An editor with strong web and magazine skills is required to help take the US edition of Exec magazine and its related products and services to the next level of their development. Salary is circa $50,000 depending on experience.

The primary responsibility of the role is to produce each issue of our digital magazine on time and within agreed budgets. The successful candidate will develop and ensure the implementation of an editorial plan for Exec magazine to maximize the number of subscriptions and readers by providing quality information to inform senior decision makers.

The ideal candidate would have several years' writing experience with at least a year’s experience as an editor or two year's experience as a deputy editor, ideally gained within business publishing. With a meticulous manner and strong attention to detail you’ll be comfortable working with senior management to deliver results. Educated to degree level, ideally with a journalist related qualification, you’ll fully understand the principles of producing high quality magazine editorial and what’s involved in online publishing.


Job Purpose Summary:
•To develop and ensure the implementation of an editorial plan for Exec magazine
•To produce each issue of the magazine on time and within agreed budgets
•To assist sales teams by attending relevant commercial meetings and provide editorial input, overseeing a profiles editor who will be looking after the ‘corporate case study’ section of Exec.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Magazine Editorial
•Oversee the successful creation of each issue of Exec magazine including working with a magazine designer and sub-editing copy to ensure the magazine hits its deadlines and the design and editorial quality of the magazine is maintained and developed.
•Ensure Exec’s reputation for editorial quality and integrity is upheld and advanced
•Produce and target a list of high quality US business leaders and entrepreneurs to profile within Exec magazine
•Develop and update annual forward features calendar for Exec magazine.
•Work with the Editorial Director to develop targeted feature ideas for our global sector magazines.
•Sourcing columnists and freelance writers
•Contributing a minimum of two editorial features or profiles to the magazine each month
•Report at product meeting on forthcoming editorial features
•Ensure spend is kept within agreed editorial budgets for the magazine

Web Editorial
•Contributing an editor's blog to the Exec website
•Working with a UK editorial HQ to ensure news stories, features and staff blogs are added to the Exec website each day
•Ensure that SEO friendly magazine articles are uploaded to the Exec website immediately after the issue publication date of the online magazine.

General Management
•Managing, motivating and developing a profiles editor to ensure that the key performance indicators for the magazine are achieved

Sales and customer media support
•To be the spokesperson for Exec magazine
•To develop relationships with appropriate business memberships, associations, media and clients and to be available for press comment, interview and sales meetings when required
•Represent Exec at relevant industry events and exhibitions

Candidate requirements

Personal Attributes
•Several years' writing experience with at least a year’s experience as an editor or two year's experience as a deputy editor, ideally gained within B2B marketplace
•Clear focus on and ability to deliver high quality editorial information
•Forward planner who is critical of own performance
•Meticulous manner with strong attention to detail
•Mature and comfortable working with senior management to deliver results
•College level education, ideally with journalist related qualification

Specific Job Skills
•Fully understands principles of producing high quality magazine editorial and the production process involved
•Track record of as a senior journalist with editing and or commissioning responsibilities in business media publishing
•Ability to write briefs for internal staff writers and external contributors
•Ability to edit internal and external copy to keep in-line with Exec voice and editorial guidelines
•Knowledge and understanding of the following is desirable:
Business market issues, especially in relation to financial information and options for industry leaders and entrepreneurs in the US
All aspects of magazine production including editorial, design and production
Awareness of the commercial sensitivities of business to business magazine publishing
